Introduction
What if we stopped seeing anxiety as a problem - as something to get rid of or that we will have to cope with, and instead used our anxiety to learn and grow?
This is the promise of this course on Transforming Your Anxiety to Compassion
Throughout this ten day journey, you'll learn to transform your experience of anxiety by gaining a holistic understanding, learning tools to go beyond coping, and begin facing directly the roots of anxiety to create lasting, internal change.
Our approach asks you to learn the messages anxiety has and to look deeply at its source. Rather than treating symptoms of anxiety, or learning to ignore anxiety, we want to create personal growth by learning to accept and transform through anxiety.
That said, anxiety can often be overwhelming and disturbing, so we do encourage use of coping mechanisms and strategies such as a good diet, exercise, and more. Even for these strategies, we take a holistic approach that focuses on the way we use them rather than simply what we do.
About the Creator
I'm Alex Krejci, and I designed this course because, after 10 years of working as a scientist, I had a lot of anxiety. I experienced anxiety attacks and began realizing that I had a constant background of anxiety for much of my life. Something was wrong.
When I finally started seeking ways to work with anxiety, I found myself completely lost. I knew anxiety was a common problem, so I started to wonder, “how could I have spent so many years in school, yet know so little about life?!”
I sought many resources to work with anxiety, some helped and others didn’t, and I found that I wasn't satisfied with many modern approaches. I wanted to have something deeper, I didn’t want to live my life becoming functional, coping, and destressing - I wanted something more than strategies to add to my long todo list. I wanted a way to create lasting, transformative change - a way to live my life with as much joy as possible.
As I started searching, I found I resonated with the teachings of eastern spiritual traditions, specifically yoga and Buddhism in my case. I was shocked to find that people have known for millennia how to work with these challenges - though I knew little about it myself. Moreover, I was amazed at how simple, yet powerful the practices were.
Our modern world is opening up to these facts, and I am realizing I am part of that trend. And at the same time, I can see we are losing a lot of the transformative effects of these traditions because we are applying our reductionist approach to traditional teachings that are built in a holistic way. We take meditation, for example, and try to use it to cure anxiety and other ills we have - but we ignore the vast teachings surrounding meditation that imbue the practice's meaning and purpose that goes far beyond making our lives a little easier.
In this course, I wanted to create something that both respects the holistic nature of these traditions, while at the same time resonates with our modern lives. For this, I assemble knowledge, both traditional and modern, in a holistic way, and try to speak to what is common to us all, our humanity.
Most of all, I wanted to create a straightforward and accessible course that can give you a way to effect meaningful and lasting change through your suffering with anxiety. The course is low-cost, can be done in the comfort of your home, and takes only 1 hour a day for 10 days.
I can’t promise you’ll be free of anxiety after these 10-days, no one can guarantee that. What I can say is that you’ll have the knowledge and tools you need to go beyond coping and start transforming anxiety to creating lasting meaning and joy in your life.
